Congratulations!

Recently, we had the pleasure of visiting BC Ferries’ new Island Class ferries at Point Hope Shipyard. These state-of-the-art vessels are not only sleek in appearance, they employ the latest technologies, combining reliable performance with an environmentally friendly propulsion system.
These are true hybrid designs, utilizing a DC electric propulsion system. Energy storage is accomplished with battery banks.  The batteries can be recharged by the on-board Mitsubishi model S16R2 powered generator sets (2). These engines comply with tough, IMO 3 emissions standards.
In future, when shoreside infrastructure permits, the batteries can also be recharged by the utility grid, further reducing the environmental impact.
These are beautiful ships designed specifically for use on BC Ferries’ many smaller routes.
Congratulations BC Ferries!
